How to Submit a Manuscript

Grey Goose Press is the exciting new way to get published. We’re bold, sassy and slightly irreverent. We’re Canadian, eh! Our mission is to move the works of exciting undiscovered and rediscovered Canadian talent to the forefront of the marketplace. We want Canadians to tell their stories, in their voice, across their landscape or view of the world. AND, we won’t stand on tradition or let red tape get in our way!! We’re offering a publishing solution for authors to deal directly with us to get their works to market. While we are happy to work with your literary agent if you have one, it’s not necessary for you to get one.

We accept submissions from April 1 until June 30 and from October 1 until December 31. Manuscripts received within these timeframes will be delivered to our Submissions Committee for consideration. Submissions received outside of these timeframes will not be read, and will not be returned. Grey Goose Press is not responsible for any materials submitted outside of our submission periods.

Due to the volume of manuscripts we receive, we are not able to respond with critiques of rejected manuscripts. We do not refer manuscripts or authors to other publishers.

To submit your manuscript to Grey Goose Press for consideration, first you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older,
  • Provide proof of Canadian copyright with your submission (Click here for details),
  • Submit
    • one (1) copy electronically in Microsoft Word OR
    • two (2) paper copies of your manuscript sent to our separate offices at:
      1. Grey Goose Press 35077 Range Rd #10, Red Deer County, AB T4G 0M9, and
      2. Grey Goose Press 2428 2nd Concession Rd W, RR1 Lynden, Ontario, L0R 1T0 and
  • Include the synopsis as would appear on your jacket cover along with your manuscript and in the same quantities and manner of submission.

If you meet all of the above requirements, please send an email to goldenegg@greygoospress.com, attach all relevant files and we will be happy to get back to you as soon as possible.

Cheers!

Copyright Instructions

Protecting your rights in regards to any art form is important. Copyright protection exists in Canada, and extends to other countries covered by an international copyright treaty, convention or organization.

There are always exceptions to copyright protection. For example, if you create a work “in the course of your employment”, the copyright will belong to your employer unless there is an agreement to the contrary. A similar situation exists if a person commissions something you produce, he or she will own the copyright unless there’s an agreement to the contrary.

You can’t copyright an idea. “Copyright is restricted to the expression in a fixed manner (text, recording, drawing) of an idea; it does not extend to the idea itself” (Canadian Intellectual Property Office).

Before submitting your manuscript to Grey Goose Press Inc., you must register your copyright. This can be done by completing a Copyright Registration Form and submitting it through the Canadian Intellectual Property Office website with your $50 fee. You do not need to send a copy of your original work.
